On May 5, 2012, the Coastal Carolina Branch of JDRF will hold its 9th Annual Hope Gala at the Wilmington Convention Center in downtown Wilmington. Proceeds from this important event fund research to find a cure for diabetes. JDRF is dedicated to finding a cure for type1 diabetes and removing the burdens and threats that the disease carries. The Foundation remains a global leader in driving type 1 diabetes science forward by funding more type 1 research than any other charity. This year’s theme is Discover Downtown for Diabetes.

We are very excited to announce our 2012 Gala Honoree will be Dr. Randy Anderson, Vice President of Global Product Development at PPD. Randy has over 25 years experience as a statistical scientist, focusing on commercial drug development for products to treat Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and related complications. Randy served on the Triangle/Eastern NC Board from 2001 to 2006. He has served as a member of the Clinical Trials Section of the Medical Sciences Review Committee for JDRF International, providing scientific review of clinical trials proposals submitted to JDRFI for funding. Currently, Randy serves on the Coastal Carolina Branch Board.  Randy and his wife Melonia have been actively involved for the past 12 years since the first support group was formed in Wilmington. They have two sons, Eric and Carter. Randy was diagnosed with type one diabetes in 1963. Eric was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999.

The evening’s festivities will include:

• Elegant cocktail reception and dinner attended by many of the area's business and society leaders.
• Unique live, silent and raffle items.
• Entertainment by The Craig Woolard Band
  
• Four course meal, complete with wine pairings.
• Presentation of the 2012 “Living and Giving” Award  
• An opportunity to participate in Fund-A-Cure, where 100% of your donation is allocated to research.
